Terrible Two's

Shortly after Avery's first birthday, he started "asserting his independence" aka acting like a little stinker. Over the past couple of months the tantrums have gotten worse and seem to happen alot more often. Since I have bachelors degree in Child Development and Family Studies (with a minor in Psych) you would think I would totally have this under control. Not to mention I am a certified Family Life Educator but let me tell you... this little almost 15 mos old is rocking this mommy's world. I have read probably 10 books since I became pregnant on how to be a great parent with a well-behaved child. I understand that the "terrible two's" is a stage that all children go through due to their lack of communication skills. I will admit that I honestly thought I would be a better parent than every other person who has ever had a child (ignorance I know) and that I would never have to deal with my child screaming at the top of his lungs in the grocery store or throwing his food in a restaurant or that hits or bites or throws himself on the floor no matter where we are. I will tell all other mommies that from experience, the sleepless nights with an infant doesnt have SH!T on the terrible twos! Not to scare anybody but its true. Just another reason why having a child is the most humbling experience ever.

Well, I'm off to take a bath to relax my mommy nerves and read my Positive Discipline book.
Any advice on taming crazy little toddlers is definitely appreciated. =)

Here is a pic of my little guy after he threw a fit in Target because he refused to ride in the baby seat. As you can see...he won that battle. ;)

Playroom Project

A few weeks back we finally painted the playroom (which is actually supposed to be a dining room). I love the color! I learned some really cool tricks from the Home Depot lady which made the paint job turn out GREAT!

Here is a pic right after we painted:

Check out the awesome curtains and adorable rug that I got at Tuesday Morning:
Now I just need to get some cute wall decor!

Avery's 1st Haircut

So.... never again will I pay some strange woman $20 to snip my baby's hair in like 2 places. Avery was terrified and I'm pretty sure it was the lady's first day on the job.
Anyways, here is the video.

**Please take note that my child charges me up at the end of this video.**

Some old video clips that I found...

I was crawling around on the floor behind Avery and then Michael comes in to play with him. When Michael is walking away he slaps my butt SUPER hard... I scream, Avery gets startled and then falls. Poor Baby!

So sweet!

While reading through other mommy blogs, I stumbled across this poem that another mommy had posted. It is the sweetest thing and exactly how I feel about Avery. It makes you really cherish everything in your baby's life because he will soon grow out of that stage and it will be the last time you share a certain moment. Michael and I always say "Only 17 more years until Avery leaves for college." It breaks our hearts just thinking about it.

Here is the poem:

Long ago you came to me,
a miracle of firsts,
First smiles and teeth and baby steps,
a sunbeam on the burst.

But one day you will move away
and leave to me your past
And I will be left thinking of
a lifetime of your lasts…

The last time that I held a bottle
to your baby lips
The last time that I lifted you
and held you on my hip.

The last night when you woke up crying,
needing to be walked,
When last you crawled up with your blanket,
wanting to be rocked.

The last time when you ran to me,
still small enough to hold.
The last time that you said you’d marry
me when you grew old.

Precious, simple moments and
bright flashes from your past-
Would I have held on longer if
I’d known they were your last?

Our last adventure to the park,
your final midday nap,
The last time when you wore your favorite
faded baseball cap.

Your last few hours of kindergarten,
those last few days of first grade,
Your last at bat in Little League,
last colored picture made.

I never said good-bye to all
your yesterdays long passed.
So what about tomorrow-
will I recognize your lasts?

The last time that you catch a frog
in that old backyard pond.
The last time that you run barefoot
across our fresh-cut lawn.

Silly, scattered images
will represent your past.
I keep on taking pictures,
never quite sure of your lasts…

The last time that I comb your hair
or stop a pillow fight.
The last time that I pray with you
and tuck you in at night.

The last time when we cuddle
with a book, just me and you
The last time you jump in our bed
and sleep between us two.

The last piano lesson,
last vacation to the lake.
Your last few weeks of middle school,
last soccer goal you make.

I look ahead and dream of days
that haven’t come to pass.
But as I do, I sometimes miss
today’s sweet, precious lasts…

The last time that I help you with
a math or spelling test.
The last time when I shout that yes,
your room is still a mess.

The last time that you need me for
a ride from here to there.
The last time that you spend the night
with your old tattered bear.

My life keeps moving faster,
stealing precious days that pass,
I want to hold on longer-
want to recognize your lasts…

The last time that you need my help
with details of a dance.
The last time that you ask me for
advice about romance.

The last time that you talk to me
about your hopes and dreams.
The last time that you wear a jersey
for your high school team.

I’ve watched you grow and barely noticed
seasons as they pass.
If I could freeze the hands of time,
I’d hold on to your lasts.

For come some bright fall morning,
you’ll be going far away.
College life will beckon
in a brilliant sort of way.

One last hug, one last good-bye,
one quick and hurried kiss.
One last time to understand
just how much you’ll be missed.

I’ll watch you leave and think how fast
our time together passed.
Let me hold on longer, God,
to every precious last.
