Couch to 5k
Even more than for the reason of getting in shape, I really want to push myself to do something that I don't necessarily want to do. I want to be prove to myself that if everyone else can do it then so can I. I want Avery to see his Mommy living a healthy lifestyle. I want Michael and I to have a hobby that we can do together. And of course if I lose about 30-40 lbs in the mix of all of this then I would be even more proud of myself.
I downloaded the Couch to 5k app on my iPhone and hit the ground running last Tuesday. It was the coldest day we had seen in a while. During our run the temp was 36 degrees. Everyone who I told that I was going to start running that day told me it was too cold and I had better bundle up. Sure, I could've used that as an excuse but I am soooo damn tired of MY excuses. I can come up with a million excuses at any given time.
Since we run after Avery's bedtime, we take turns running. Michael goes first while I am getting Avery ready for bed and then its my turn. This first week has been pretty easy for Michael. As for me...not so much.
Week 1 Day 1: It was COLD! I had a hard time breathing while running. I had to make a conscious effort to breathe in and breathe out. The entire time I kept thinking that there was no way I would make it through. At about mid-way I felt like I was going to poo, throw up or possibly both. I had to walk my last "run" interval because I got one of those strains in the arch of my foot. I felt good afterwards and proud that I did finish.
Week 1 Day 2: I thought it would be alot easier but it seemed to be even harder than the first day. My dang foot kept getting that strain in my arch feeling so I didnt run the last two "run" intervals. Also, it was way too dark and I felt like I couldnt see where I was running so I was constantly slowing down to see what I was about to run over. No sick feeling but I did walk through the door crying.
Week 1 Day 3: Michael finally pumped up the tires on my new jogging stroller so Avery and I headed out for an early morning run. The jogging stroller slowed me down alot and I will have to figure out a way to keep Avery from talking to me the entire time. Other than that, I felt good after my run. Avery was motivating me the entire time just by being there with me. Even though I wanted to stop I wasnt going to let Avery see his Mama stop.
There you have it peeps, my newest journey and hopefully a reason blog a little more often.

I'mmm BAAAAACK!
I just havent had a free second to really sit down and write anything in my blog but I miss having record of whats going on in my life. Avery will be TWO on Saturday!! I can hardly believe it. Here is an update on my sweet boy:
-He is wild.
-He goes to Mother's Day Out once a week and FINALLY loves it.
-He is becoming less and less shy.
-Although he acts shy around strangers he still have no problem with screaming his A$$ off in public places.
-He loves playing outside and would live out there if we let him.
-We fight him to get in the bath and fight him to get out of the bath... its awesome!
-He is the funniest child that ever lived. Promise!!
-He can count to three without help but that is only because he counts "1, 2, 3..." before he commits random acts of danger.
-He loves to sing and his favorite songs are "ABC's" and "Happy Birthday".
-He talks ALOT!
-He is very interested in the potty and has been pee-peeing in the potty before bath time for a while now.
-He still sleeps well and will still take 2 naps a day if we are having a lazy day at home.
-He loves saying his night time prayer with Mommy and Daddy every night. And then he likes to race us to his bed.
-He is still attached to his "ba-ba" but after Saturday (his bday) we are throwing them all away.
More to come very soon...

It's official...the kid likes me!
Anyways, so today Michael wasn't feeling too well so he layed around the house for most of the day. While he and Avery were napping, I snuck off to Hobby Lobby with my Mama. Hobby Lobby turned into Big Lots, Big Lots turned into Tuesday Morning... you get the point. I was gone for about 4 hours. Since Michael wasn't feeling well, he wasn't being his usual super-fun-daddy-self. Avery never misses me but when I walked through the door he did the "happy dance". The happy dance is only a dance that we see Avery do when his Daddy (or sometimes Nana) comes through the door. I couldn't believe he was dancing his little jig for me!! I seriously could've cried! Avery ran up to me and wanted me to carry him around with me and he kept saying, "MY Mama!! MY Mama!". Sweetest moment ever!
Maybe I should sneak out more often....hmmmmm.
Look what we scored off of Craigslist for $150 bucks!!

4th of July Weekend
Tuesday, June 29, 2010
Dear Laurin-
You will find out that sometimes people die in their sleep. Trust me, you will not die in your sleep... not at 9 yrs old anyways. So stop having your mom check your heart rate before bed every night.
Dear 11 year old Laurin,
Buck up and go to Camp Grady Spruce. Just because your mom has to work and can't go like the rest of your friend's moms doesnt mean you should stay behind. You will be the only white girl left behind and a few mexican chicks will chase you around the playground for some freakish reason. You would have more fun at Camp Grady Spruce... so go!!
Dear 12 year old Laurin,
Your parents will get divorced this year and even though your older sisters don't seem to care, it will tear you apart. Don't let yourself get too upset because your Mom and Dad will get back together.
Dear 16 year old Laurin,
You will start acting like your shit don't stink. No its not cool to get drunk at this age nor is it cool to be so boy crazy. Oh and get your ass up and go to school! Also, you will start dating your future husband this year.
Dear 19 year old Laurin,
Don't go to Richland College! Go ahead and start off at a university. If you go to Richland it will take you a year longer to graduate.
Dear 21 year old Laurin,
Just because you are legally allowed to drink alcohol does not mean that you should go out every night and get trashed. You will lose a friend this year because he was drinking and driving a motorcycle.
Dear 24 year old Laurin,
You graduate from UNT this year and will start working full-time. Don't expect Michael to marry you just yet.
Dear 25 year old Laurin,
You will move in with Michael in Dallas. Ya'll will act really immature and drink WAY too much, WAY too often. Get it together girl! This year you are blessed with something super special...pregnancy! You and Michael won't think yall are ready to be parents but it will be the best thing that has EVER happened to ya'll.
Dear 26 year old Laurin,
You will FINALLY marry Michael and meet your son this year! Your life will change in every way but it will be a way better life than you could've ever planned for yourself.
Dear 27 year old Laurin,
You will be so grateful to Michael for allowing you to stay-at-home with your little man. It will be HARD, but worth it in every way.

SAHM are super women!!
Anyways, this isn't a post about Scentsy. (Shocker, huh?) If you are looking to make some extra cash while stay at home with your kids I of courze recommend Scentsy BUT if it's not for you then there are some other really cool direct sells companies out there.
The first one is called Stella & Dot.
It has the cutest jewelry! Granted I don't wear jewelry on a daily basis anymore but if I did I would so be into Stella & Dot. My sister's friend Aimee is an Independent Stylist for Stella & Dot and she LOVES it! Oh and they also have a little girls line. It is however a bit pricey.
Another direct sells company that is really cool is called Initials, Inc. I don't know anyone who sells this but I love their website. I assume it would be fairly easy to sell to moms since we definitely love monogramming our child's name onto anything and everything!
A really unique direct sells company is called Vantel Pearls. A family friend, Danielle sells with Vantel Pearls. My mother-in-law hosted a party and it was amazing. Danielle brought a bunch of oysters and cracked them open right in front of us. She dug the pearl out (which was kinda gross looking but amazing nonetheless) and appraised the pearl during the home party. You never knew what color, size or quanitity of pearls you were going to find in your oyster.
And the last one that I think is cool is Southern Living at Home.
I don't have any friends who sell Southern Living but I have been to a party that one of my sisters hosted. They have the nicest stuff! So much better than Pampered Chef. I would love to buy this cool beverage server! Now if I could only find a way to justify spending over $100 on it. I love it so much though!

April- Warmer of the Month
$22.50 until April 30th!
Give an apple to your favorite teacher! Scentsy is introducing their first Mid-Size Warmer of the Month. ABCs is a wonderful accent for classrooms, school offices, and teachers’ homes. A red apple with the sentiment “The best teachers teach from the heart” lets the educators in your life know how much you appreciate them. The hand-painted red apple and green stem in matte finishes are embossed on a low-gloss blackboard- like background. A debossed white alphabet border completes the classroom theme. Crafted from translucent porcelain, the letters glow from within when the warmer is lit.
The Scent of the Month for April is Red Candy Apple.
In keeping with the “apple for the teacher” theme, Red Candy Apple is bursting with tart Macintosh apples, red raspberry jam, sweet red berries and strawberry milk, with notes of brown sugar, taffy and cotton candy. A super yummy Scent!!
10% off until April 30th!

Pampered Chef Party and Scentsy
All of you working moms should appreciate the adult time you get each day. I dont get a whole lot of adult conversation during the day. Avery and I talk mostly about "apple-ju" and "dog-dogs". That is the reason why I decided to sell Scentsy (http://www.laurin.scentsy.us/). I love having an excuse to get together with friends and meet new people. Scentsy has been such a blessing. I have reconnected with so many people from my past and made alot of new friends because of it.
If you are a stay-at-home-mom like myself you should think about being a consultant for a direct selling company. I know many people who have had alot of success due to companies like these. I of course, think Scentsy is the BEST! And its definitely so easy to sell a product that you truly love.

Show us your life!

A new favorite blog that I read is Kelly's Korner. She has this thing called "Show us your life" that she does every week. Last week was- What is your typical day like?
6:30am- Michael tells me "bye" & leaves for work, then I usually can't fall back to sleep so I lay in bed and watch the news until Avery wakes up.
7:30am- Avery wakes up. I get him up, give him a milk bottle and snuggle him on the couch while watching Nick Jr.
8:00am- Breakfast time. I eat quickly then unload the dishwasher while Avery finishes breakfast. *Turn on all my Scentsy warmers*
8:30am-9:30am- Play time for Avery. Laundry time for Mommy.
9:30am-11:00am- Nap time for Avery. I usually shower, play on the internet, drink coffee and watch The View.
11:00am- Avery wakes up, then we decide what we will do for the day. I usually get Avery dressed, grab him a snack and head out to run errands or hang out with my sisters.
12:00pm- Lunch Time.
12:30pm-2:00pm- More playtime, cleaning and errand running.
2:00pm-3:30pm- Nap time for Avery. I usually relax for a while or get cleaning done that I cant get done while Avery is awake.
3:30pm-5:00pm: Play time. We like to go outside if its nice out during the afternoon.
5:00pm- Dinner
6:00pm-7:00pm- Avery's bathtime, then wind down time. We clean up the playroom then cuddle on the couch and watch Sesame Street or read a story.
7:00pm- Avery's bed time then Mommy cleans up the dinner mess.
7:00pm-8:00pm- I pick up the house and wait for Michael to get home from work.
8:00pm- Michael gets home and we just veg out the rest of the night. Sometimes I workout or go to the grocery store.
So there you have... MY typical day. What's yours like?

15 mos check-up
Weight: 25lbs 12oz (50-75%)Head: 19 1/2 in. (95%)
As you can see, my little man's growth has slowed down a bit. (Thank goodness, I thought I was raising a giant during his 1st year.) I was a little shocked to see that he had gone down in percentile but the doctor said thats perfectly normal at this age. The combination of stopping formula and starting to walk has really thinned him out. Avery is looking alot more "little boyish" rather than "chubby babyish" these days. I can't believe how much he has grown and matured over the last 15 mos.
Avery is all over the place. He has been walking for a while and now he can run, climb, walk backwards and jump (he is yet to get any air though...hehe.) He has learned to get on AND off of the couch which I am so happy about. He had quite a few tumbles onto his head that I was sure would damage him forever. Luckily, he is a tough one and usually laughs when he falls.
Avery has a TON of words. He is definitely gonna be a talker like his Mama. =) His newest words are: "ca-ker" (cracker), "apple" (apple..he has that one perfect), "apple-ju" (apple juice), "jen-jill" (gentle) and today he said "a-pen" (open) for the first time.
He has recently learned how to close his mouth for kisses. Not that I didnt LOVE the open-mouthed-completely-slobbery kisses but his new closed mouth kisses are just that much sweeter. Avery trys to be such a helper lately. He will pick up laundry and put it in a basket. When I fold laundry he likes to hand me the clothes out of the basket.
Avery has been having temper-tantrums when Mommy and Daddy can't understand what he wants or is trying to tell us. We usually go through a list of things he could be telling us until we figure it out and then he immediately stops the tantrum. When we arent have communication issues, Avery is starting to be more of a cuddler and I take full advantage of every moment that he will let me snuggle him.
Avery loves to eat and will eat basically anything. His latest favorites are PB&J sandwiches and yogurt. Oh and my niece, Olivia has introduced him to marshmallows which seems to be like baby crack to him. We have to hide them in the pantry...its a pretty serious addiction. ;)
Dr. Richardson no more bottles which we are working on. Avery still needs a bottle in the morning and sometimes before bed. I'm okay with it and I live by the "Mama knows always knows best" way of life. We will get rid of the "ba-ba's" soon enough.

Baby Boy's 1st Dentist Appt

I was in a hurry getting out the door so I forgot my camera at home. No pics of my sweet boy at the denist. =( Next time I will be prepared... promise! After his cleaning they let him pick out a prize. There were dinosaurs, cars, airplanes but Avery wanted a glittery green bracelet. Haha! I grabbed a Spider Man tattoo for him to even things out a bit.
Here is a pic of the office from Dr. Sandy McDougal's website:

I can do it!!

I lost 4 lbs over the weekend! I think that was the little kick-start that I have been needing lately. I never get motivated until I lose about 5 lbs. My hubby is great competition too. Although all he has to do is cut back on his fast food and he loses 15 lbs...not fair! My sisters have been great motivation lately. Amy has been at the gym EVERYDAY! I went 3 times last week and I am hoping to go at least 4 days this week. I still refuse to leave Avery in the gym daycare with all of those yucky kids. I hope to get over this one day because it would sure be alot easier to workout if I didnt have to schedule babysitting for my little man.

Terrible Two's
Well, I'm off to take a bath to relax my mommy nerves and read my Positive Discipline book.
Any advice on taming crazy little toddlers is definitely appreciated. =)
Here is a pic of my little guy after he threw a fit in Target because he refused to ride in the baby seat. As you can see...he won that battle. ;)
